|
|
My girlfriend and I were offered a job in Busan and everything sounds great except for a couple things: the housing they're offering is a, apparently, "large" studio apartment. This concerns us because there will be no separate room to escape to if we need alone time or get in a fight etc... except a small balcony. They will not provide a housing allowance instead, and they will not let us have two smaller separate studios, we asked. This is the only housing they are offering.
What do you guys think? I'm in the process of finding out the exact size, and we're getting in contact with a couple who lives there right now to see if they would be kind enough to provide pictures, but right now I'm a little hesitant about a studio for a couple. It worked for that couple though, obviously.
There only other thing is the studios for the teachers of the school are all on the top (fifth) floor of the actual school. I talked to a woman who teachers there right now and she says she thought it was weird at first but once she got there it was fine and works out well because you can go home for lunch and there is no commute.
Do any of you have advice or experience with any of these situations I'm presenting? Thanks in advance. |

They're just trying to be cheap by having two teachers stay in one apartment. And, you're living up from the school? Sounds convenient for them to come knocking when they need an extra teacher to cover a class. |

That's true. I will have to talk to the teacher (who sounded Canadian to me) if they abuse that kind of thing. She said she didn't have problems with uninvited visits and she had very positive things to say about almost everything, however she was honest when she needed to be. She also said the director of the Hagwon, a woman, was very understanding and a pleasant person, which is a much better review I've gotten from many of you on here about your directors. |

was this a couples only position? if so you probably don't have much of a choice. if it's a deal breaker, then push them for bigger housing |

Hi there,
For what its worth, my wife and I shared a studio on our first go around in Korea. I have to tell you, we really grew as a couple since we were with each other a lot. I think the trick is to have slightly different schedules, so that you can have your own time for yourself, but our marriage is stronger and we know each other a lot more because of living in tight quarters. I hope that we're more the rule than the exception. I wouldn't advise living that way for a long period of time, but we did it for a couple of years and it was one the best situations we could have found ourselves in. We would do it again here, but not with two kids, lol!
Best of luck! |

Does it have a loft?
I know a few people that it works for but it didn't work for me and my ex. It really depends on the type of people you and your girlfriend are. |

Thanks for the replies... Sounds like it works for some couples and doesn't for others. tough choice we have now. I just talked to the woman that is currently living in the large studio we've ben in and she says she will send me a few pictures which will definitely help the decision. Damn... we've been job hunting as a couple for so long and it's been a long, frustrating process, I would hate to pass up a good opportunity like this. This has been our first good offer. What to do... |
