Let's say I want to invest in a fund in Korea using KRW. I've received conflicting information from banks concerning the tax implications.
As a 'foreigner' with an Alien Registration card, what is the rate of taxation on income made from financial investments in Korea? |

| On a similar note; I would be interested, if anyone has any info/experience, with a Kospi ETF. Preferably one you can pay a small amount into monthly, and has low fees. |

rusty- you don't need a korean brokerage account to buy a korean ETF- there's one trading in the US, under the ticker symbol EWY.
in the article there was one very interesting comment: 'In one respect, he believes not knowing much Korean has helped him.
"I don't speak Korean, I don't understand Korean, so I'm not always in on the rumors," he said. "I'm not emotionally affected by that ... I'm not panicking." '
retail investors in korea (usually ajummas) are hugely susceptible to rumours.. thus if a company renames itself '___ education', or the CEO's son marries the daughter of some hyundai guy, for example, they all pile in and send the stock into the stratosphere. the best thing you can do in korean stock market investing is stay away from all this hype and just buy value. of course, its like that everywhere, but the effect is particularly strong in korea. thus, be rational, cold-headed and teach yourself valuation- and you'll make money. |

That was a good read.
I use Samsung Securities. Their software is painless to set up and it's in English too. It's kind of a hassle transferring money in and out though (you have to call and know basic Korean) but other than that I'm very happy with their services.
The website is www.samsungfn.com |
