My ipod has been working fine... less than two years old. I carry it in a case and have never dropped it or gotten weird liquid on it.
Yesterday I got pissed and threw my bag down on the floor, hard. My ipod was inside. Really don't see how it could have taken the brunt of that throw... but now it won't work. I reset it (pushing the menu/center button together for eight or ten seconds), and it just goes to the apple sign and doesn't show anything else.
Any suggestions???
Also, anyone know where I can get it repaired or at least looked at? I've bought two ipods the past few years... the last time it was about six months old, bought in Bangkok, and I took it to a seller in Gwangju (Korea) and they said they would send it back to the company, who would examine it for misuse. If there wasn't misuse, they would replace it for free. If there was misuse, they would replace it for only 150,000 WON (or so).
I doubt they ever DON'T find misuse in this case... but paying 150,000 WON wouldn't be too bad at all. Anyone know anything?? |

I live in the bum-f south of the country and had my ipod go out. I just waited for the next time I went to Seoul. There's an apple store in COEX mall that guided me to an Apple repair center a few blocks walk outside COEX. As far as I know, as long as the ipod's not dripping water or has a nail shot through it then they'll replace it for free if it's still under warranty. My warranty had expired so they replaced it for I think 150k. They didn't want to mail it to me initially but agreed to when I told them I was a 6 hour bus ride away.
Good luck! |

Sounds to me like it's just an operating system failure. If you're getting the apple then the power is working, so I'm betting it's an OS corruption.
Which iPod is it? If it's the old type with the mechanical hard drives in them (classic) then it's likely that could cause some sort of failure, but the touch has an SSD which is much more resistant to physical shock.
Fix:
Open itunes and plug the ipod in.
Click restore ipod to factory settings, this will wipe it and reinstall the operating system. You can then resync to get your music etc. back on.
Let me know if it works. |

Thanks for the responses.
It's the new 80 GB ipod. I'm at school right now, so I can't plug it into my computer, but when I tried to last night, the ipod didn't register. The computer gave absolutely no signal that an ipod had been connected. So I can't really restore it in itunes, as hugekebab suggested. I've been told by others to restore it manually... get into disk mode and fix it that way, which will erase all my files, but I have those on the computer anyway.
So I guess I'll just wait until I get home and see what happens on my home computer, which has my itunes on it (don't want to download itunes at school just to test it).
As for the warranty... that was comforting to hear, partialtone. At worst (hopefully), 150,000W isn't the end of the world. I just have no idea what my warranty status is. Do they keep track of that stuff on computers? Because I have no paperwork. I don't even have the original box. Again, I bought it for 150,000W in Gwangju because the warranty on the one before had ended (actually it hadn't, but apparently they only keep track of the paper warranty, which I couldn't believe, and I had lost it in the move). So let's hope at worst it'll cost me 150,000W.
Thanks again. |

No receipts needed for me and I never sent in any cards. I had bought mine in the USA and they were able to look up the warranty right away on their computers here in Korea. One of the few companies that I know of that actually makes the warranty process easy. |

Nope, got screwed. Wouldn't repair it for free, wouldn't give me a new one for 150,000W... total disappointment, basically. All they said was it's totally fuct and there's nothing to be done about it.
Oh well. Just another few hundred to Apple... |

I have had that happen to me many times with it not registering especially through vista. It won't sync via itunes or any other way so I just have to use my laptop and it syncs that way and lets me restore it. I would just test on another computer as i always have driver issues with mine. |

I'm surprised they wouldn't fix it, if it was under warranty. Mine broke down with about 2 weeks left on the warranty. Didn't have a receipt or anything, so they looked it up.
Did they send it away? Or did the shop stone wall you? If the latter is the case, and it's still under warranty, you should try a different store. |

You could try going to another service center and ask again. Korean businesses and other operating establishments don't seem to follow the same rules or policies.
It wouldn't hurt to try |
