Just bought a new i5 machine.
i5 750 CPU
Coolermaster 212+ heatsink
Asrock P55m Pro mainboard
4gigs Gskill 1333 DDR3 with CL7 timings
1 TB WD Green HDD
LG Super Blue blu-ray reader drive
7 in 1 card reader
Newzen Green 500w Power supply
Gigabyte ATI 4550 "screen" fanless graphics card (for movies -- I don't game)
Microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse
All total, came to just under 1.1 million built (no OS yet). I'm picking up a new LG 23" 1080p monitor tomorrow for about 260,000. Awesome looking monitor. |

Thanks. I picked the parts, although the graphics card wasn't my first choice. I just wanted something silent, or near silent. Wanted the new low-end GeForce card that does LPCM over hdmi, but it's an OEM card and a bit difficult to find by itself as of Monday.
I was pretty happy that the prices on all of the parts were all really close (sometimes a tad less) than prices on Danawa and Enuri. They are charging me just 10,000 to build it. The case is kind of ugly, but it has fan controls, 4 USB's in the front, and good airflow.
Never had an Asrock board, but the people who have reviewed it said it's a solid value board. It also offered higher speed ram upgradeability, although I doubt I will bother.
Paid a smidge extra (not much ) to get CL7 timings on the ram. Most DDR3 is CL9 these days. |

I dono dude it seems kinda expensive.
I built a new PC recently for the same price and I got;
CPU: Same
MB: Same
RAM: 6gb
GFX: Two HD4870 (I do game lol)
PSU: 600watt PSU
HDD: 1TB HDD
I would have adviced ya to build it yourself if you could, but if it's all ordered n stuff then it's all good.
Enjoy your PC man! |

The blu-ray drive added another chunk of cash, but still less than 1 of those HD4870 video cards you got.
Feah, are you in Korea? I'd like to see a price breakdown on everything you got if you are. What was the board, Ram, drive, etc? What brand was the video card?
Building it cost me another 10,000 won.. that's it. I've built several computers before. It's no longer fun or interesting.
Hate to say you're a liar, but if you're in Korea, I don't see how it could have been much cheaper, seeing as you bought 2 video cards that cost about 175,000 won each and at least another 50,000 ito 75,000 in Ram. |

How much cheaper is the i5 to the i7. I'm wondering what the price/performance ratio is on the 2 chips.
I think I remember reading that the i5 can easily overclock to i7 levels, which would piss off a lot of i7 owners if they heard that. |

Cheapest core i7 is 365,000
The cheapest core i5 is 250,000 (I got mine for 240,000)
The i5 is not as fast as the i7, but it beats the AMD 965 (stock settings) handily on most benchmarks. It's also cheaper than the 965. The i5 is said to be about 90% of what the i7 is. The i7 also does triple-channel memory, while the i5 only does dual-channel. No hyperthreading for the i5, either (if you care), but it does have turbo.
The i5 can be overclocked well, yes. The reason I bought it is that it's a very energy efficient chip paired with a P55 board, compared to the i7. The anandtech bench doesn't show that, but in an average of work over time, the i5 does better, according to other sites I've seen. There is a new i5 coming out next spring that is 25% more power efficient.

The monitor buy was sort of a fiasco.
I went to Yongsan, peeked at every monitor I could find, and decided I liked some freakin' gorgeous 24" 16x10 off-brand montor/TV the best. I was wowed by its clarity. Problem was, it was used -- sold for about 150,000 less than it was new. I bought it, went to work, and decided to do some research on the Korean company that made it. I dug through some Korean blogs, and with the help of a student, found out that the monitor in question had HDMI but apparently no HDCP (digital content protection) ability. Guys were complaining that it didn't work properly with Vista/Windows 7, and quit working with their PS3's (probably after an HDCP required update). People complained that the company never answered their phones.
I tried calling their service team, only to get a recorded message, be put on hold, and never hear from a soul. Their website was gone. They're probably history. Being that there was no warranty left, and apparently no company left, I realized how freakin' stupid it was of me to buy this thing.
So I went back to Yongsan and returned it, feeling stupid for ever buying it and wasting my time. I purchased the LG W2354V 23" 16x9 monitor instead. It looks really nice, although I would have preferred a glossy panel. Samsung makes nice glossy panels, but they're too expensive and they make you pay a premium to get HDMI. So I went with LG. Newegg had lots of great reviews on the slightly older model (3 months older) of this panel.
Honestly... get the slightly older one, the V2261VP-PF model. The reason is that that one has actual buttons. Mine has these AWFUL touch-sensitive buttons that are hard as hell to use. And you can't read the type where they are supposed to be. Other than that, and the shape of the bottom of the monitor, they are identical. |

I don't think there is a difference between DVI and HDMI, other than the HDMI being able to carry an audio signal. Unless your monitor has built-in speakers, the HDMI feature is kind of pointless.
You can easily get a DVI->HDMI (vice versa) adapter. |
