I tried to make Makkoli once, but it didn't work; fermentation didn't start. I can't find the recipe, sorry. But a tip for ya (why mine didn't work according to the old woman in the market), you need to wrap the bucket in a blanket and if possible turn your ondol on. |

For soju you would need a still, pretty much anything over 12-14% needs a still as the alcohol kills the yeast |

I make lots of beer, so i was keeping it at the same general temperature (~20C). But that is apparently too low cuz mine didn't work at all. |

Soju, is fermented sweet potatoes.
You do need a still though, but they are easy to make. You will need a large area that is outdoors but still sheltered. You do not want to make it indoors. There is nothing that smells worse than fermented mash.
If you really are interested and want to build a still let me know. I have recipes for whisky and brandy. You can just replace the corn with sweet potatoes, I am sure that it will still come out alright.
You can strain rubbing alcohol through bread, but I have never heard about turpentine. Turpentine is a mono turponoid, it will cause hallucinations, brain damage and severe migrains. It is similar to absynthe. But don't do it, you will most likely die. |

My MIL makes makoli but it's a long ass process. Actually her makoli didn't turn out so she threw it away. |
