I was wondering if an Iphone would work with any of the Korean carriers. If someone could enlighten me with an answer I'd greatly appreciate it. |

Only phones sold by korean carrier would work in korea. Each service provider only alows phones that their retail outlets sell operate on their networks. |

Not true. My friend's boss has an iPhone working on the SK network right now. He bought it in America, had it modded, paid the import taxes, etc. All told, I was told it cost over 1.5million won, but he is happy. |

if you want to have your iphone "certified" for korean use there are two things you must do:
1. make sure your iphone is hardware unlocked.
2. pay a 500,000 won "certification" fee to the kcc.
then you can use it. |

500,000원 is extortion for them just to put a lousy KCC sticker on it. I'm betting. |

Thanks for the replies, but wow.. I think I'll just sell my iphone to someone here and buy a phone there perhaps. Doesn't seem worth it to me to pay all that extra just to have an Iphone there... Thanks again guys for the replies.. |

After you jailbreak an Iphone (Which I have no problem doing) will you still have to pay all those fees that previous posters mentioned? If so there still is no point for me to do that. I might as well sell it here and buy a new phone in Korea. |

I wouldnt call myself tech saavy either but jailbreaking has nothing to do with unlocking. Jailbreaking will let you mod your iphone so you can have themes and free apps and such.
Unlocking is so that you can use it on different carriers...
However, from what I know, most carriers back home are GSM, as in you can move your sim card from phone to phone with no problem... while Korea is CDMA and therefore will not work with the Iphones from back home.
If I am wrong, that would be awesome since I brought my Iphone from home and am currently using it as a mp3/video player. |
