Hello,
I am moving Korea for the first time to teach English. I have to decide between two schools, and I am just trying to get an idea of what each place to live would be like. My options are in:
A) Goseong County in Gangwon-do.
B) Yeongi County in Chungnam.
I was just wondering if anyone could give me some insight to these two places. I understand that they are both rural which is good as I am not concerned with finding western food, night clubs and things like that. I just want to get an impression of what these two places are like. Something I would like is to be close to nature, mountains, coasts, etc.
On a side note, the school in Chungnam is an all girls high school. I worry that my presence could be seen as ill intentioned because I am a young male foreigner. Is that a realistic worry?
PS. Do Korean's have things like farmers markets? |

I can't find the second place, but I've been to Goseung. As it is right on the NK border and getting there is not so easy compared to other holiday places in Kangwondo, it is a quiet place. Not a lot there in fact. Only famous landmark is Syng Man Rhee's villa opposing Kim Ilsung's villa. There is a lot of nature there but most of it is off-limits. Goseung is on the invasion-path if NK attacks, so there are a lot of prepared fortifications.
There's no problem with single male teaching at a girl's school even if you are a horn-bag.
Yes, there are farmer's markets if you know where to look. |
