 Posted: Mon Oct 26, 2009 12:59 am Post subject: Question about passport |

My employer says he will go to get my national ID card or the card that you need to have insurance and open a bank account, not sure its name. And he says I do not need to come he will simply take my passport and go get it himself, should I be wary to give him my passport or should I insist that I go with him because I do not want to depart with my passport?

Do you mean your immigration card? If yes, I believe you have to go with him. If immiigration takes your passport do not worry that is normal. You will get it back when they mail your ARC card back to you. I had to go with my co-teacher. As far as a bank account, you need to be there  I would not give him any personal information to someone in which the bank may need. It is none if his business. |

My employer said I do not have to go with him to get the immigration card, that I can just give him my passport and he will get it. Which is why I am a bit nervous to hand over my passport. |

I would go myself,but I can not guarantee what he is claiming so I would call1330 if from cell phone or if from school phone 02 1330. Ask for the number of the English version of the immigration hotline and ask the lady. good luck  |

Yep, give them the passport and you get ARC and passport back a couple of weeks later. Or you could make a big fuss...for some reason. |

| I've had employers insist that I go with them and then another school that had lots of experience with dealing with immigration who told me I didn't have to go. |
