I tried to book movie tickets today after signing up on the CGV website (clicked the button down the bottom that says 'Membership for Foreigners') but ran into issues when it came to payment.
I selected KEB Credit Card (I have one of the Global Cards that act as a debit card here and can be used for cash withdrawals overseas) but then they wanted a two digit code, which I don't have.
Does anyone have any idea what this code is, or how I find out?
Cheers. |

I think I know what you are talking about, but you won't like the answer...
I ran into trouble trying to use my ShinHan card (actual CREDIT card) to buy plane tickets a few months ago. The Korean Air website basically said that I had to go to the bank and verify that it was really me trying to use the card. I did that, and they gave me a piece of paper telling me to download some program to keep on my computer to use the card online. When I pay for something online with this card, this little applet starts up and verifies that the request is coming from my computer. Super annoying. (When I tried to use it on the English side, I had no such problems, but the tickets were 800,000 won more expensive).
Alternatively, some banks give you a little credit-card type thing that has a long list of numbers on it, like a cipher pad. The site calls out one of the numbers on the list, and you respond by typing in it's matching set. Do you have one of these? |

I didn't get one of those print-outs, as far as I can remember.
Thanks for the reply though. |

If you registered for an online banking account you should have gotten the code card. It's the same size as a credit card and has a bunch of random numbers on it. |

This is the key! I wanted to check my pension online, and my coworker told me to sign up for online banking. I said "WTF for?" "I want to check my pension contributions!" Then she explained that to do anything online I had to get one of those little cards, along with a digital encryption file that is stored on a USB drive. The way to get them, she said, was to sign up for online banking.
On a brighter note, I can now send funds overseas with my new online banking! |

Yes, that is very true.
For online items under 300,000W I've been told you don't need this "certificate". For purchases over that amount, you do.
Sadly, I can't seem to get my card to work in Gmarket. I still have to go down to the bank to get one of those "certificate" cards. Annoying, but that's the way they do things here. |
