I have one year experience in Japan, a degree and TESOL? I am willing to teach any level. I would like to live in or near Seoul. What salary should I aim for?

The exact same amount as a kid fresh out of Toronto University that majored in communications: whatever they see fit to pay you.

Even the most reputable schools see the foreign teacher as an interchangeable burden. Just throw any white face at the students and maybe things will work out. If not, run out the contract if he's not too much damage.

It's been my experience that folks who taught in Japan seem to have no trouble leaving their Korean jobs to go back to Japan. Most EFL jobs here hurt the feelings of legitimate teachers.

it depends on whether you choose to pursue a public school or a hagwon (academy) position. you'll get paid more at the hagwon (most likely), but you'll teach more and probably will deal with more crap.

at a public school in GEPIK or SMOE school boards, i think you could earn at least 2.1 million won, a little bit more in GEPIK because they're not in a metropolitan city. you'll have to check the salary pay scale for both boards.

With SMOE, you'll be on 2.2

1.8 = newbie no experience
2.0 = 1 FULL years experience

Plus an extra 200k for the TESOL certificate = 2.2

With GEPIK I think you'll be on an extra 100k (plus a further 100k depending on if your school is considered "rural")

EPIK I'm not sure about.

With hagwons,it can come down to your negotiating skills. TESOL usually means bugger all to them though.

2.2 public school

2.2 - 2.4 in hagwons. Possibly more with the right wind and a fair sail.
With the hagwons, the question is how many hours will you have to work for that...
