My school, and the whole city's schools where we live, is thinking of closing for two weeks. This is because toooo many students in the city are ill with swine flu
Now my school owner is saying that for the two weeks that we are going to be closed, we will not get paid
Any other schools saying or doing this?
How will the repsonse be if your school wanted to do this....
Any input ( not Paul Chon ) will be helpful. |

We're not responsible for swine flu. I don't see any reason why we should be docked pay. If anything it comes down to the inconsistent hygiene practices in the schools and the virility of this strain. |

youre not scheduled to work, so you dont get paid. they gave you notice in advance. wouldn't like it, but there's nothing wrong with it - as long as they dont try to say that was my vacation time, too. |

I disagree...tell them you'll go to work, you'll sit at your desk and you will get paid. You are healthy and willing to work. Ask your handler if all the Korean's wages are being docked. I bet they're not:) |

Yes, I would want my school to cut my salary.
It has been a dream of mine since I arrived. |

It's a temporary lay-off for lack of work. I'm not sure if there are specific procedures for notifying employees in korea, but I do know you have 3 years of call-back rights. Just because your willing and able to do a job, it doesn't mean there is any work for you to do. It happens all the time at companies for things like inventory surplus, lack of materials, upgrading facilities, etc. You get sent home and called back when there is actual work to do - your offer to come to the job site and stand beside idle equipment and be paid will get you laughed out the door.
If youre at a public school, it is unlikely your pay will be docked since its publicly funded. However, a hagwon is more likely to make the time unpaid because its a for-profit business and would not pay any staff - including the korean staff. |

which is is easily prorated using this method:
(Monthly salary / 30 * the number of days worked) - relevant deductions |

Sure... and while they're at it, I'd appreciate: longer hours, more classes and fewer holidays too. |
