These forums are full of important info and usually brutally honest, so here goes.

I am a 62 year old white male who wants to teach in Korea. How much is my age working against me? Should I even bother to continue my search? Are there any other countries where things might be easier?

Thanx in advance for your advice and honesty.

I'm told that most places won't hire anyone older than 54. The Chinese rule is similar. My school is not renewing with a man who is 51. Some of the smaller more rural areas might be willing. The question is whether you are willing to be in very small areas? I think that it is poor decision making as older people often have great experiences to share.

If money isn't an issue and you just want to go somewhere foreign and teach, you could consider joining the US Peace Corps (assuming you are American). From what I understand, most of the assignments are mainly teaching English anyhow. They are very accepting of older people, I've heard them suggest people "retire into" the Peace Corps. When I was looking into nearly two years ago it was something like $4500 for 27 months.
