So, I've had this Linksys router for nearly three years. I bought it at Technomart. It's worked fine at both my old apartments and this apartment.

But recently I'm having two issues and they seem to be getting worse day by day.

1. Often times, it will drop the connection to my macbooks airport off and on for about five minutes. Just off and on. Sometimes it'll drop off for a few minutes and come back. I watch a lot of streaming tv shows and usually when it drops, I have to start all over again. It's driving me nuts.

2. Sometimes when it does drop off, it wont pick it up automatically again. I have to go in my airport and manually click over on it. It asks for a password. There is no password. It's open. I believe in free internet, so I do my part. I usually have to manually click over anywhere from 3 to a dozen times before it stops asking for a password and picks up the connection. Sometimes it just wont at all and I have to unplug the router for a while, then try again. About 50% of the time, I'm on one of my neighbors network, but the signal is really weak and slows down all my online activity.

I'm wondering if it's time has just passed and I should get a new one? Or fork out the hundred bucks for the apple airport extreme set up? Or is there another router brand that works better?

Please help. I'm ready to pull what little hair I have left out over this stupid piece of plastic.

It's dying.

That's what starts happening when mine have gone in the past. You can try changing the channel. Could be some kind of interference. Mine have always had problems when my wife runs the hairdryer, when someone uses a cordless phone around them, etc.

I'm guessing you'll need to go shopping for a new one.
