Try the free anti-virus programs first. There's a good chance they can clean up most of your problems.

Google for,

AVG
Avira
MSE

Any other good free ones?

No offense, but this is like closing the barn door after the horse has run away. BY FAR the easiest thing to do is to just back up your important stuff and reinstall. After that, put the antivirus on first thing to prevent this from happening again.

But yeah, try the already-mentioned free ones first. You may also wish to try ad-aware and spybot.

Bunch of really good free stuff.
-Hitmanpro (combination of bunch of adaware/spyware removal)
-Malwarebytes (The free trial works wonders for malicious junk)

+1

reinstall. Less than an hour and you'll be virus-free.

This versus hours of posting on forums/scanning/patching/restarting/reinstalling drivers/failing/re-scanning...

And you want to burn down, then rebuild the barn...?

I agree - save the goodies and rebuild. An even better idea, rebuild with Fedora or Ubuntu Linux. You can still do all the things you're used to doing, but with NO worries about viruses or malware.

I have a windows drive I sometimes use - ad-aware is the ONLY thing I ever use on it. Never have a problem.

Best free antivirus option is AVAST Home at www.avast.com . It works very well, and it's free.

I also keep an updated copy of Malwarebytes on my hard drive.

A good paid option is Kaspersky. You can download a free trial (if your current malware problem hasn't blocked it -- which DOES happen) here:

http://www.kaspersky.com/productupdates

I get it from the product updates section, because then you aren't asked for e-mail verfication, registration, or anything... it just works for a 1 month trial.

You can purchase Kaspersky Internet Security from here, and choose either 3 years with one computer, or 2 years on one and 1 year on another. Yes, it's Korean, but you can download the English 2010 from the website and just insert the key. Did that on my wife's computer:

http://gen.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=173745358&pos_shop_cd=SH&pos_class_cd=111111111&pos_class_kind=T&keyword_order=kaspersky&search_keyword=kaspersky

Notice it's the 2009 version, but that is no problem. The keys will work for 2010 version.

I run Avast on my home computer, because it's free. It does the job. But I find Kaspersky is more aggressive about scanning memory keys and such.

Another pointless, entirely non-helpful comment. Keep up the good work, douche!

Why don't you try with Kaspersky or Nod32?
They are currently in the top of anti-virus program list. The price is suitable. And you can buy in Korea.

I've used this two years and satisfied with this. At the moment, I am using Nod32. It's updated every day (or per two days). (Kaspersky is also the same).

Good luck!

clamwin is also decent

Also, like the others said, antivirus programs are best used to prevent a virus. Once your computer is screwed, reformatting is the best bet.

For Windows XP or older, Symantec has a very good free client security which is can update virus list frequently. Unfortunately this version is not provided officially on the website of Symantec, if you want it just PM me.

Often "like" what?

A guy gets a virus, and one horse Landon tells him to format. I, in keeping with his cliched analogy, wonder why such extremes are necessary?

Now, shall we examine your obsession with buy and sell, or just the rare times like this where your invaluable contribution is to join in the name calling?

You people are ironically hilarious for a couple of humorless gits.

Pray, tell, what is the issue with Buy/Sell?
You are clearly so bored that you have nothing else to do than find something/someone to scribble inanities about.

I want stuff. I want to buy stuff.
Everyone does...
