Alright there
Well I start my 2nd year in Korea on Wednesday. Im teaching adults (around 23, my age) American Headway starter, 1 and 2. Also free talking classes. Im told i teach each of these books over 2 months. It sais in my guide book 60% of the class should be around the book, the other 40% around other activities. Have to go to Japan tomorrow so can't go in and observe at all and also today was a hol so a bit annoying. Wondered if anyone could give me some hints. Well I'll be teaching the first pages of all these books on Wednesday and 2 free talking classes. If anyone could give me any sort of info it would be excellent as to how to teach to adults (taught kids before) and also what extra activities. I guess anyone giving advice would possess the books so youd be-able to see what these pages are like.
Thanks a lot |

just check they understand each word on every page.. expand on the exercises the book gives... set the workbook exercises as homework and work through them in class. how often are the classes? daily? 2 months is about right for a daily class.. they are good books... i used them last year..
evry few weeks take the class for a beer or 2 during class time, this is real free talking time and maybe your boss will cash you up for it.. if not, the older koreans will feel they must treat so it won't be a massive outlay.. don't forget......... give n take.. if you do this, don't let them pay all the time, it is your class and your lesson plan..
i had 1 student 2 years ago who sat the TAPS test 6 times without success, after drinking with me for 1 month, he dramatically increased his score and passed easily.
there are plenty of free talking text books around.. if nobody is spending money, you could try the 'dear annie' columns or whoever she is in the times or the herald for fuel for the free talking classes.. sex, drugs, porn and america are good topics to use as they get the students thinking about how to maturely discuss these touchy issues (they are adults after all) |
