For those of you who have found your own apartments, how did you go about doing it (aside from soliciting the help of a Korean friend)?

You find an apartment you want to buy...

Write up a contract, transfer the money and the apartment becomes yours.

very simple

Unless you can handle yourself in Korean (written and spoken), then don't go it alone.

Otherwise it's easy enough to find a wide range of apartments. Go to a "bu dong san" in the area you are interested and tell them your requirements. They will search through their files and present a selection of apartments that meet your basic requirements.

After that, it's a matter of viewing them and deciding if this is what you really want to do.

If you do find an apartment you like and want to take, be sure to do a title search and lein search for outstanding loans before you sign a contract or pay a deposit.

Cheers.

PS. Hopefully someone else can fill in the rest because I've only briefly dealt with this when my girlfriend went looking for a new apartment.
