I have just arrived at work to to be given, upon entry, a mask that I am told I must wear at all times while in the classroom teaching. We have had a few students recently out with "swine flu" (I believe Koreans now think everything is swine flu).

Now, as some of you may actually like this idea, I really am opposed to the idea of wearing a mask for 5 hours a day. It's hot in my hagwon, I don't like sweating under a mask, I have to speak louder so my students can hear me, it's uncomfortable, etc. Also, I am very healthy and rarely go to the doctor even once a year. I've never had the flu and I can't remember the last time I got a cold (besides the first month after I got to Korea, But I don't count that one Smile )

Just curious if any others have been "forced" to wear a mask? or what would you do in my position if this bothered you as well? I am thinking about telling them I am claustrophobic and can't wear it for that reason. Also, I don't know yet, but I don't think ALL people at my school have to wear one such as the people at the front desk, managers, etc. They walk around the school within inches of students as well.

Only while in the classroom? Suck it up for a while! Draw a mouth on the front and have fun with it! Better still, buy several more masks and draw different mouths...

What's going to happen if you don't wear the mask?

Consider yourself lucky you don't have to wear Mikey Mouse Ears and a pig nose. While scoring points for teams dancing around and throwing copius amounts of candies while singing the head and shoulders song.

I really don't know. They can't afford to take me out of the classroom.

Just don't wear one if you don't want to! Who is forcing you to!? What, they will tape it and chain it on you? Just say no!

Wear it and keep pulling it down or off like all the teachers and students are doing. After lunch and the next day just keep the mask next to you. The owners of a hogwan are dealing with paranoid mothers and they have to be able to tell the mothers that, yes, Mr. English is wearing a mask.

If you fight it, somehow they'll make you feel like you're the one responsible if any kid gets the flu. Remember, this is the land of fan-death.
