My...friend...is wondering if it will be better to purchase a special toy in her home country and pack it in her luggage or wait until she gets to Korea and purchase one there. My friend knows someone who had her special toy removed from her luggage at the airport and waved around by an airline employee who did not know what it was. She was in the embarrassing position of having to explain using sound effects and pantomime as the person did not speak any English. My friend would like to avoid such a situation. However, my friend prefers to purchase such things anonymously if at all possible. Any advice will be appreciated. I will be sure to pass it on, of course. |

If it is something really specific, bring one. They won't have it in Korea. |

Pack it with the batteries out and preferably buried deep in between clothes. Don't put it anywhere near any other electronic equipment that they might search. If the bag gets random searched and they find it, there's nothing that can really be done, but if it's packed properly it should be alright. I've heard the horror stories too but none of my friends had an issue bringing theirs over.
The quality is cheap here, they're nothing like back home - depends on what your friend wants/needs but I recommend bringing it with her.
Also, spread the word that you can't buy them online and have them shipped over - My friend just last week bought one and got a call from customs to her school, telling her in broken English that she wasn't allowed to have it and that they were sending it back.

This is so retarded. What's wrong with a sex toy? Are they really such prudes?? |

Pack my phone number instead, it's lighter
Seriously though, why not just stick it the case that you are checking in, as opposed to your hand luggage? Surely in that case there would be no humiliating moments going through security. |

According to the guy who called her, it's actually illegal to import them into Korea - not the first time I've heard that, either. I think it's ridiculous too. |

It's hardly *importing* when you're just buying it for your own personal use.

Can buy them here, but they don't have nearly the selection as they do back home... GF and I found a nice place in Itaewon... Follow the street directly across from the Hamilton Hotel for about 3 minutes... It'll be on the right hand side of the street (just past the construction) on the third floor of the building... It has a sign, but it's easy to miss... |

I call BS on all of you who say they don't have any selection here. Just because you don't know where to buy things doesn't mean they're not available!
A simple search on G-Market will bring up thousands of items. (You must log-in). There are tons of other Korean sites that have everything that makes the mind boggle and more. Sex shops are in virtually every neighborhood, you just have to know what you're looking for. Of course online is always cheaper and they give you lots of free giifts too. Stuff ordered online is also well-packaged for maintaining privacy and usually gets delivered within 48 hours or less.
As for me, I had my latest toy delivered just this week, and I have no complaints at all |

Interesting thread..
I remember reading an article about how they were making such toys from overseas illegal for "morality" reasons. But like so many other laws or rules in this country, it may only be enforced to certain extent. |

We know about GMarket - but the OP is a newbie. How do you suppose she visits a Korean site to buy a toy? Should she enlist the help of a Korean?! And before you say Gmarket has an English site, the sparse details are in English, but what you really need to know is all in Korean.. so it's of no real help.
I have visited Korean sex shops and I have looked at stuff online - frankly, comparing to what I have seen in London and Germany, even in HK, the selection here is pretty dismal.
As I said, if it is something very specific, bring it because chances are she will have a tough time buying it in Korea. |

this reminds me of something, and it's a bit only here-ish.
A few years I stayed in a very fancy hotel in Seoul for a romantic package deal. The deal included a bottle of champagne, nice lotions, and a few toys from jimmyjane (luxury adult toymaker.) This particular hotel also had a 'anything anytime' policy where you could ask the staff for anything and they would try and get it for you. Well, given the nature of the hotel stay things got romantic, and unfortunately, a bit arrid. So, we called down to reception and inquired about some lube as per the 'anything anytime' policy and they were stupefied. I dunno, I just thought this hotel would have had that covered if they're giving guests naughty blindfold and saucy dice.
But on topic - I've bought things here and they've worked out for me. Sex shops are generally very obvious with signs stating 'over 19, adults only) and I can recommend one, but you can PM for that. |

There are several stores in Itaewon. The one that a previous poster mentioned in Itaewon is quite good. We hit it up for a bachelorette party and were impressed. There's one in Sinchon too. I think you can pretty much buy anything here nowadays. |
