|
|
Hi,
I have a Sony Ericcson K800i. Its unlocked and quad band and I heard it will work in korea. Ive made a call on in using my sim card from the UK. Obviously I don't want to do that all the time as it will cost a fortune. Where can I get a sim card in Seongnam and will it work in my phone?
Thanks in advance. |

Korea is on a totally different network. I'm not sure of the technical part, but i believe they use wcdma at 2100mhz. If you have a phone that'll work on that frequency, a simple SIM card swap won't do the trick. Korea doesn't use SIM cards (they use a different type of card that doesn't recognize SIMs). You'll have to see if the phone company would allow your brand in the first place. I've seen Sony Ericcsons here before (as well as Nokias), so I'm sure it's not a problem.
Seconldy, you may have to register the phone with the KCC (maybe it's a different acronym - but it's the federal communications board). Recently, people are trying to bring over their iPhones. It is now possible, but you'll have to pay the commission like 350,000 won for fees to allow your phone to operate in this country.
I too am in the market for a new phone; the old one popped out of my pocket while I was driving on my bike. I've seen Blackberries around. I've also seen some HTC phones for sale.
Hopefully others can help out with their input. |
