Dear all,
In a previous post I asked whether one should get an MPhil or a PhD before going to a Korean university. Although I got some good feedback via PM I would like to ask the wider forum for their opinions. The top Korean Universities seem to be hiring for tenure-track posts, especially in business faculties, and it appears that foreigners are given priority in the selection procedure. I would appreciate your opinion on the following:
- Chances of making tenure as a foreigner versus a Korean? Is it based on teaching or on research?
- Salary differences between Koreans and foreigners? (for assistant professors the salary seems to be around 60-65 mill per year at a relatively good university)
- Hours worked as a researcher and as a teacher? Any differences here between foreigners and Koreans?
- Chances for professional improvement at the uni (administrative posts, bigger research grants, etc.)
- Do foreigners have an equal voice in decision-making?
Thank you very much. Any further thoughts are very welcome. |
