I had heard about this diet several years ago. Someone I know claimed to have lost 5 kg on it after only 1 month. I am considering trying it.

If I get around to it, I will drink it just once a day and see if I feel any different. Pure maple syrup is expensive. I have cayenne, and I can get lemons for 500-1000 won each.

The ingredients in the drink are..

Quote:
juice of 1/2 a lemon
2 tbsp maple syrup
1/10 tsp cayenne pepper (or less, to taste)
8 oz water

The reason your buddy lost 5kg was because she/he was essentially starving herself for a month. I'm surprised she didn't lose more, but at least the lemon juice staved of scurvy.

I tried this a few years ago, but I didn't make it past the first day. When I was on the diet, I could drink as much of this concoction as I wanted, but wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything else for three days. I was starving (literally) and I wasn't prepared for the major caffeine withdrawl that set in by early afternoon on the first day...not a good experience.

The Master Cleanse or Lemonade Diet goes in and out of vogue from time to time.

Essentially, its a caloric restrictive diet where you are consuming less than 1000 calories per day.

In additional to the diet, you must do a salt water flush to move stuff out of your colon. That involves taking a laxative and drinking a quart of water treated with sea salt.

Usually people regain any weight they lost very quickly after stopping the diet.

You can see the weight loss effect after a long term on the fast.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHzza6PHAVI (Day 40)

I encourage you to watch all of the videos of that YouTube user. He switched to a raw food diet after stopping the Cleanse and suffered some odd health affects like persistent ringing in the ears.

Any "diet" that has the sole purpose of losing weight is inherently a bad diet to begin with. But by "diet" I mean a healthy, balanced eating regimen that includes foods from all of the food groups. As much as I hate to over simplify, moderation of caloric intake while still eating a balanced diet is the only true way to maintain an optimum yet healthy weight for one's individual body frame.

One tip I use myself is to try and listen to my stomach and not my taste buds. I know there are times when I am full and don't really need to eat anymore but the food just tastes so good it is hard to stop. But I almost always regret the way I feel later when I do over indulge.

By the way, I am very sensitive to the struggles of people with weight problems as I had a brother who went so far as to have gastric bypass surgery because of all the stuff he went through like employment bias and ridicule.

How can anyone not lose weight living in South Korea when Korean food tastes the way it does? And there's always good ol' exercise.

When this was introdiced to me, he told me that it was not a diet. It was a process to flush your system of crap.

There are so many preservatives and other stuff in your colon that stay there for years. Hot dog skins, cheese slices, etc. Your body has a hard time digesting them. Getting that crap out could make you lose 1-5 kg, depending on your diet. Maybe more in exrtreme cases.

I want to try the diet, but not only this. Just drinking it in addition to a slightly reduced diet. The worst that happens is that there's no effect and I wasted $10 on a bottle of Maple Syrup.

I have done...twice.
The poster above is right, it is not a diet, it is a flush/detox.

You also need to add psyllium husk powder as well as bentonite 3 times a day.

It is worth a go imo. You will clean out your stomach of alot of crap that is lined in there. I did it for 10 days each time. Well worth it! Especially on days 7-10 when you have not eaten for a week and you are dropping huge bombs in the morning.

People do this because this has been known to help prevent stomach cancer as well as ulcers. Lets be honest people, no one has a perfectly clean system...steak can sit in your stomach for up to 30 days. And if you think it is chemical free, think again.

anyhow, you can buy the bentonite as well as psyllium at www.vitacost.com it comes in about a weeks time...the syrup can be purchased on the g-market website.

This is stupid. Of course you will lose weight. You are starving yourself.

If you want to lose weight, you have to cut carbs as much as possible and increase the amount of energy you consume from animal fats.

Detoxes are stupid as well. Your body eliminates waste. Steak does not stay in your stomach for 30 days. That is plain stupid talk.

It is not a way of losing weight. It is a detox. Repeat, it is a detox.

Steak can stay in ones stomach for up to30 days. It has been proven. Don't believe it, not my problem. Google it if one feels the need of proof.

I think detoxes are a good idea. Everything needs to be cleaned once and a while. People say you deprive yourself of essential nutrients and vitamins while doing a detox. Your body is a machine, and what it may gain in one area, will lose in another. With that said, once back to an ordinary diet, the nutrients and vitamins lost will rejuvinate themselves.

To each their own. But I will say this much, try it. Try it for one day and drink the salt water the next. You will drop alot of stuff you have never seen before (and I promise you, you will have never taken a schizen like this before) out of your butt. Knowing there is more there, and lots of it, should be enough motivation. Or don't...could careless...to each their own.

Detoxes are bullshit.

Pseudo scientific mumbo jumbo. Stop making stuff up.

Yes to each his own, indeed.

Known by whom? The medical community?

Your body does a pretty good job of cleaning itself.

Of course it's not chemical free. Steak has water, protein, fat and more. All of those are chemicals. Water is a chemical, and so on. Heck, your "Master Cleanse" is chemicals, too! That maple syrup has lots of chemicals, so does the cayenne etc.

I found no evidence of this. Furthermore, nothing is ever 'proven'. When you're dealing in the realms of medicine/science, this is important.

Yea it's a detox. I've done it and it will help you get a jump start on a healthy life style.

People that learned how to eat properly will not benefit from this. If your liek me and loaded you body full of junk for years then it will flush junk out and things like inflamation will decrease. Most of the weight you lose is water weight. Make sure you do the salt water slush or you will be in a bad way.

Detox is bullshit...Why pay for something your liver and kidneys do naturally? Don't believe me? A simple glass of water could kill a kidney patient who isn't on dialysis.

Diets? Who's ever been on a diet and didn't return to eating the same crap they always do in less than a month? Diets are popular because people go on them known it's a short-term change. It allows them to continue being self-indulgent without the guilt.

Losing weight is easy if you are willing to stop kidding yourself.

Eat less junk food and more fruit and vegetables. If sugar's been added, don't eat or drink it. You don't even need to exercise. Just do something to keep yourself active for 10 to 20 minutes a day (take the stairs instead of the elevator, go for a walk, vacuum your apartment, etc.)
