Is the job scene any better in places like Vietnam or Cambodia?

I've been offered 2 or 3 jobs in Hong Kong and im a newbie at this game so i don't even have real experience behind me. My friend worked there for 6 months and really liked it, it's expensive to live there however....

Taiwan is somewhere im hoping to go teach in maybe 2011. The wage is good, anything between 50,000-70,000 Taiwan new dollars. Thats about 950-1300 British pounds. Im not sure if you get paid flights but i do know you have to find your own apartment, the schools usually help though. I checked it out, you can find a good apartment on the cheap.

It all depends on what your priorities are. If your more into the money side then i'd stick to Korea or Taiwan. Japan living costs are high, as are Hong kong. The wages aren't high in Thailand but it's a fun place to work.

I've heard that Ho Chi Minh City is a great place to work (fun factor).

Cambodia is also pretty decent if you're not solely after the money. On the plus side, these countries have a much lower standard of living. Cambodia also pays in USD.

Standard of living is a different concept to "quality of life".

I think he meant the cost of living. The standard of living for an EFL teacher in some South East Asian countries can be quite high. I mean I could afford a maid, eat out everyday, travel a lot in country, live in a spacious and comfortable apartment with a large balcony, enjoy nights out. The only time your salary is NOT good enough is when you need to travel overseas. That's when the financial reality of how much you make really comes into play.
