There should be an amazing meteor shower (Leonid) tonight somewhere between 3-5 am (Seoul time). It is going to be incredible. For all of you who don't mind waking up and sacrificing a little time to see nature at its finest... opportunity knocks.

Thanks for the heads up! It's gonna be a cold one but with hundreds of strikes per hour it should be worth it.

I should also mention that the news article that I read says the peak will be between midnight and 1 o'clock. But I can't verify how trustworthy the source is as it seems to be an astronomy blog:

Quote:

Another source is saying 6 in the morning. . .

Edit: The blog I quoted above got it wrong. The peak will be between 6 and 7 in the morning but anytime after 2 should be good viewing.[/b]

Well I just woke up half an hour ago (3am) (god only knows why) Saw one or two good ones and several very faint ones, if you live in the sticks step outside and give it a look, couldn't see much here but I imagine if there is little light outside it would look pretty cool

A little disappointing here. Probably too much light around. (Would have been better off with the extra sleep).

Damn. I got up at 530, since the source I had read 600-630 as the best time. Saw two right away, but that was it. Perfectly clear skies out here in the sticks...saw the stars very clearly, but not many meteors... Sad

I managed to get up at 4a.m. wore double-layer everthing and viewed the night sky from the roof top. Being in the sticks, it was a really nice, clear night sky.
Facing the big dipper I did mangage to see a number of, whataretheycalled?, leonids?
Anyways, it's luck if you look in the right spot because they were so quick that most I caught with my peripheral vision. Some were faint others were like taking a white board marker across the sky.
I managed to see about a dozen in 20 minutes before I began sneezing like mad and headed back inside.

One made two splashes in our atmosphere like a rock skipping a pond. That was cool.
