Just curious...I keep reading how some things are SO much cheaper in Korea and some things are so much more expensive.

Is it going to be difficult for me to come across a music store? or market where I can grab a guitar?

Not sure how much it'll cost me to bring it along as well.

I'll be in Anyang btw....(other Anyang insight welcome as well)

Thanks!

If you don't mind buying a second hand one, harpeau, who posts on this site, has a used guitar store and he frequently has good ones for sale.

All over the map. If you want something American made you're going to pay more for it here, but there are lots of very well made Korean guitars here for cheaper than you'll get them there. The best electric guitar I ever owned was a Korean made SG copy that played beautifully and kept it's tune indefinitely. I had to sell it to pay the rent years ago. Sad

I decided to buy one when I got here and haven't regretted it. They're expensive to ship and they take up precious packing space when you first fly over.

Check out Korean made guitars. I bought a Crafter acoustic electric and have really enjoyed it. Although, I have not found a brand of Korean-made strings that I like yet. You can find plenty of strings by American companies with little problem (I like Martin).

I don't know where Anyang is, but there are lots of music shops in Seoul where you can buy a guitar.

As with most things, the Korean brands are cheap and the foreign brands are way more expensive.

If your guitar from back home is expensive and nice and you care about having a quality instrument with you, then bring it. I brought my Gibson Les Paul Studio here with me, which cost like $1,000 back home new but would cost at least 2 million won to buy new here.

If your guitar back home is cheap anyway, or you don't mind playing a cheap Korean brand guitar while you're here, then buy one here.

Do you play acoustic or electric? Do you have a case? Cables? Effects pedals? An amplifier? Any other gear? All that gear stuff is pretty expensive here unless you buy a cheap Korean knock-off brand.

If you do want to buy music stuff here, here's a good store you can order from online after you get to Korea: http://www.freebud.co.kr/

You can find some deals here - I bought a new Gretsch jumbo acoustic with Fishman electronics for 450K won here (runs for $600 in the States), but I've yet to find a deal on a Fender, Gibson, Taylor, Martin, or other higher quality brand. Those brands are much more expensive here.

Also, I recommend bringing your guitar accessories from home, including plenty of strings. I use Elixir strings and they run about 22-24K a pack here, and music stores won't ship them here.

lol, Elixirs are like the most expensive strings there are.

Normal guitar strings are like 7,000 won a set.
