I am prescribed ritalin and a few other medications by a doctor in the U.S. Will I have a problem getting ritalin and perhaps xanax there? |

No. Korean docs hand them out like candy.
Lol a few months back my dentist rubbed pure coke (or perhaps novocaine) powder out of a tub on my gums and walked away leaving the tub right there next to me and was gone for about 4 minutes. The little bit he used on my gums got me high... Just as I clicked and was going to reach over, he came back lol.... |

Be careful. In Korea, there is no value placed on privacy with regards to medical information. Also, there is social stigma attached to having a mental illness. Of course, I am not saying ADD is a mental illness, but some people do.
On a side note, I grew up with ADD and was probably among the first children to ever be prescribed ritalin and then later dexadrin. I took those drugs for 10 years. Later, against the objections of my doctor, I quit taking the medication as I was having a great deal of trouble sleeping. This was near the end of high school at which time I had concluded that I did not want to be dependent on medication for my success in my life.
At any rate, my ability to get to sleep greatly improved after I quit the medication. However, I starting to have violent nervous tics in my neck, arms, and legs. As I later learned, this was probably because the medications had eroded the dopamine channels in my brain. It took years for those tics to fully go away which I also might add made my social life a bit difficult. So, I wish that I had never had taken ritalin.
Yes, it would have made my academic life as a child more challenging if I had never taken ritalin and dexadrin. On the other hand, I have earned a BS and an MS all without the help of medication. So, I personally think I could have lived up to the challenge as a child. And yes, I still have a tendency to daydream a lot, but I have learned to be better at controlling it so that it does not affect my professional life.
I only say all of this because in case you have not already guessed, I am against ritalin and other stimulant drugs being prescribed to children. Also, I think it should only be sparingly prescribed to adults if at all. Actually, right now, there is a non-stimulant drug for ADD called stattera which I did take for a few months while I was going through a divorce. Well, I hope that this has been enlightening to you and other people in similar situations. |

People are usually prescribed ritalin because they have some difficulty with concentrating on anything. As long as the situation is under control, I do not see how that should be a concern with regards to working around kids. Also, I might add that we do not know if the poster is going to be teaching kids. You do realize there are adult hagwons and universities, right? |

Sell me your ritalin.
I'll tell my 4th graders its a new candy, and I'll finally have peace. |

I've had doctors here actually push ritalin and xanax on me. Apparently I'm ADHD ('officially diagnosed' during my last year of university). I've never taken anything for it before, and I graduated high school, college, and university.
I took the ritalin for fun, but found that it's really not that much fun. Sleepless nights and moodiness aren't fun. The xanax I use as a sleep aid when I need it.
Personally I'd never put one of my kids on either. I got this far without needing meds, so maybe others can too. I know everyone is different, but if you can avoid these mind-bending drugs, please do. |

No offense, but just go to a doctor's clinic. How is that difficult? |
