My school seems to be paying my cable bill. I was under the impression while they would pay for rent, the teacher is to pay for utilities (phone, hydro, gas, cable, internet).

Anyway, the cable bill (about 19,000 won a month) came twice since I started. Usually when a new bill comes in, they take me over to the bank and we set up the bill for automatic payment. When the first cable bill came in, they said I wasn't responsible for that one. When the second one came in, clearly for cable I used while living here, I noticed on the bill it was in the school's name and was automatically being paid out of their account. I gave it to them and noted it was still in their name and I was, of course, friendly to paying for my own cable bill.

After some Korean cross chatter, they said "that's okay, we'll pay for it".

Hey, thanks! 20 bux in my pocket...

I'd like to think they're being nice instead of being lazy ("bah, its easier to pay for this than go over to the bank and get it all rejigged!")

Anyone else finding their school is paying for some of their utilities?

I don't know who pays our cable bill. It's not included in our monthly maintenance fees and we never get a bill. Someone is paying but I've not been asked to pay any portion of it.

Same with water. We get 2 of those 13l jugs a week and have yet to receive a bill. Someone is paying it but it's not us.

No bill shows up at the apartment saying it's been paid from anyone's account. The phone bill shows up, being paid from the director's account and he then deducts that from my pay, as he should.

Well, when we get skylife hooked up next month it'll be me and my roommate paying for that, no question.

Cheers

You're paying 19,000 for cable? Shocked I've never paid more that 4,000 here, and I've noticed that illegal hookups are very, very common.

My last school paid for cable as well. I'm not sure if he even knew he was doing it though. Smile

Ah yes the phone bill is another I've never seen. Maybe they're deducting it from my pay. Do you actually get a pay stub with deductions listed? I've never seen one and the other english teacher who used to work there said they don't seem to hand them out...
