I've been learning Korean for a little over 2 months. I have a 1 on 1 teacher, it's 3 hours twice a week in the morning, 6 hours total a week. My teacher is cute and nice, but when I told her to stop teaching directly from the book because I thought it was bad (it is!) and not enjoyable for me, she got a little lost in how to teach, because thats the only way she's ever done it. It's kinda turning into me dictating what I want to learn but I'm afraid I'm not really sure what I should be learning at this stage and what the best way to maximize my 2 three hour sessions a week. When I have nothing to suggest, she just goes back to what the book would teach. But going to a different teacher isn't worth it because she gives me good $/hour value for a private lesson.

2 months into learning, with a 1 on 1 tutor for 2 three hour sessions a week, what would suggest I do in class? How can I get the best value from these 1 on 1 classes?
Thanks~

Try to get a book that has some kind of well constructed speaking activities or role plays, not just grammar memorization. I started with Seoul National Universities book, and there each chapter has speaking activities that are nice. Maybe the Sogang book has activities also, but I am not sure what book they use.

I am currently studying at Ganada Korean Hakwon. Their book is straight grammar memorization, for the first 6 months and after that as far as I can see. Nothing resembling review or activity is done in class. But you know, all the grammar is useful to know (if someday I learn to use it speaking not just reading). I guess my point is that if she does end up teaching too much grammar from the book, it is boring, but not useless.

I agree you should get a good book and let her teach you from that. The Sogang books are good, just follow the book and you will learn everything you need to communicate. Do all the exercises and activities together, do the dialogues, learn the vocab, and talk with the teacher in Korean only (or at least keep English to an absolute minimum).
