Hey everyone,
I've known for the past couple of months that I'd be moving to Incheon at the end of August and started to get worried with everyone's negativity towards it. However, I just found out today that the public school I'm teaching at is in Bupyeong, which seems to be getting pretty good reviews from many posters. I was just wondering if anyone could give me a better idea of how big Bupyeong actually is? Assuming I'm on the opposite side of where all the fun is, how long would it take to get from one end to the other?
Thanks in advance. |

I have lived in Bupyeong since 1996. The best things about it are:
1/ You can catch the Yongsan Express at Bupyeon Stn. which will get
you into Seoul in 35min.
2/ There are a handful of bars with foreigners like: "N-Bar", "Goose-
Goose", "Woodstock". Four stops up the line towards Seoul the quality
of the bars improves with offerings like: "Rhythm and Booze" where you
can get a decent burger and Ale on tap. But Seoul is best for boozing.
3/ Getting to the Domestic Ferry Terminal is easy. From there you can
make it to the May and September Deokjeok Island camping parties.
4/ To answer your question, Bupyeong is pretty big. From one end to the
other is probably 20min. in a taxi. |

Thanks Cohiba.
I'll be teaching at Sangjeong middle school. I know you said Bupyeong is big, but do you know if that's anywhere near Bupyeong stn?
Thanks again. |

| I hope its not too late to get in on this thread. I tried to pm the op but im still too newb for it. I'm on my way to Bupyeong in 2 weeks for my first contract and have read on the forums that Incheon is questionable but that Bupyeong is something of an exception. Any updates on your transition to life in this area? words of advise? etc? |

| I lived on the western edge of Bupyeong-gu for three years, and still own an apartment in that area which we'll be using as a holiday home whenever we go back... out of the three areas I lived in Korea, the others being Singal in Yong-in and Sillim in Seoul, I think I enjoyed living in Bupyeong the most. Nice area, with quite a few decent bicycle rides and hillwalking areas if you're into that sort of thing. |

Bupyeong is probably one of the largest foreigner areas in Incheon (the other being guwol-dong) There are tons of good restaurants and a good number of foreigner bars (as listed above) Its fairly easy to meet new people, if you like to drink, and its probably the easiest transition place from western to asian society. Between bars, shopping and foreigners you should have a much easier time adjusting in this area than other areas in incheon. |

Well it's nice to see that my post finally got some replies, though now that I've been living in Bupyeong for the past couple of months it's kind of useless to me now
Either way, for anyone who is considering it - Bupyeong is great. Before I left I read a bunch about how dirty and disgusting Incheon is, and, well... It's true. Most of Incheon looks pretty old and decrepit, but not all of it. The suburbs of Incheon can be really nice, and like I said: Bupyeong is great. There are tons of foreign bars and great resteraunts (and a good Indian one if you're a fan).
What I'm saying is... Don't listen to all of the other posters whine about how awful Incheon is... If you haven't noticed, most of the people on this board are in constant bad moods. |

| Thanks for the reassurance. From what I can tell on maps I'll be working and living near the heart of Bupyeong. I'm both excited and nervous, but I'm confident in a few months I'll have the same positive opinion about it as you do. |
