I just got a job offer but I'm wondering if I'm seeing red flags and whether I should accept the position.
The program manager offered me a job yesterday but told me to come to the school for another meeting next week and would not discuss the position over the phone. I was also told several times not to come if I wasn't planning to accept the position and to bring my visa documents.
Red Flag? Other than the general curriculum, I don't have specifics on work schedule, vacation, return airfare, etc., and the only thing the program manager wanted to talk about over the phone was renegotiating the advertised salary.
Advice: I can attend the meeting with the school in order to get the details and contract terms of the teaching position and then make a decision, but the behavior of the school is frankly off-putting and I'm wondering if I should avoid the school or is this just the way some schools do business.

Note: the position is not a typical teaching position. I would be teaching college business classes with western accreditation, not english classes. |
RED FLAG! Seriously. The program director cant give specifics they are most likely hiding something from you.

What city are you in and/or is the job in? Sounds like a con game that was once attempted on me... |

These bleeping outfits where you leave the interview knowing hardly anything about who you'd be working for. And they can't even give you proper directions to their business.
Then you have the ones that have three people interviewing you at once. It's like they're testing you. "Let's see if he can figure out how to the school and see his reaction under pressure."
A good school will bleeping meet you at the subway station.
Then they give you a book and ask you to do a demo. Not that that's a bad thing, but who wants to go through all the bother? For someone who looks on you like you're a piece of crap? For a crappy salary?
Yeah, I guess we should do more research on your website (if you have one), which is all in Korean, before going to the interview, so that we know all about your company.
I swear, the next interview I have I'm going to have some of the most smart-assed answers. Depending on the questions and attitutdes, of course.
Tell them that they should hire a Filipino. |
