I went out for a walk this afternoon taking pictures of leaves (damn weather), and suddenly I found myself in a war zone. There were huge piles of rubble and smashed buildings with windows and entire walls missing. I kept walking and walking and there was no end in sight. Finally after like 10 minutes I made it back to a street where there were people happily going about their day.

Anyone know what was going on? Obviously it's not a bomb or terrorist attack because there were no burn marks. And nothing in the news about a couple square miles of Seoul being blown off the map. It was pretty intense. I know I can't post pictures on here, but I'll try to get them up on my blog soon or something.

Maybe, someone is making a movie about the Korean War...

Or much more likely, it is a neighborhood that is scheduled to be bulldozed for some sort of development. If that is the case, you are probably looking at the aftermath of a protest that went all out. Which subway station were you closest to? And what dong were you in? If you can answer those questions, it should be possible to find out by searching through the news.

That's the result of a protest? Maybe I should've added, I did see some construction equipment around, and they're far more likely the culprits of this mess. It must be a huge project.

I'm by Sinimun Station, but really have no idea what direction I walked in.
