What has been your experience working for Avalon School in Haeundae, Busan? I have heard mixed reviews, but overall the consensus is that it seems to be positive. Is this Busan branch fairly new? Has it established a good reputation?

I've read the following link regarding Haeundae SLP, but I'm not sure if that is the same school:

Is there anyone on this board who works at or knows someone who is employed at the Avalon branch in Haeundae? All reviews of this school are welcome.

I know one person that worked there for a full contract and a person who is currently working there. I'll send both of them a message and see what they say.

My friend worked at the Avalon in Suji for over two years and loved it. But that doesn't really mean much when it comes to the Busan Branch.

Thanks TDR for emailing your friends. I appreciate it. I thought there would be more information on this school given the popularity of Avalon and the large city of Busan, but I guess not.
I look forward to hearing back regarding your friends responses.

One friend replied so far and this person said:

in my 10 months ive been here I would say that avalon is a good place, compared to the horror stories ive heard about other places. Overall, I would recommend it.

the good:
-Your syllabus is all planned out for you, so preparing for classes takes about 15 minutes.
-you always get paid on time
-everyone's housing is really nice
-theres detention, so your kids cant be total assholes.
-i work with 6 other foreign teachers
-the korean teachers are all really nice

the bad
-it can take them a really long time to get something done for you(ARC cards for instance took about a month to get to us.) it helps if you just stay on them about it.
-You have to be at the school for 7 hours no matter how much you teach.
-they can be pretty insane about taking time off. we had a no travel swine flu thing for a while and couldnt leave the country even if we had vacation.
-its a hagwon, so business comes first. parents complain about the most retarded sh*t and you have to put up with it.

That's a pretty good review. If you hear back from your other friend, let me know what he says. If you don't hear back from him....I'll just assume he's having such a great experience that he doesn't even have time to respond Smile
