|
|
The weeks of me teaching without a co-teacher (or without my Vice-Principal even attempting to find one) will total 3 by the end of this week.
Is that okay? I heard it was illegal. But I've also heard that it happens to alot of people, so I'm just checking.
It hasn't been 3 weeks in a row, but because of some reason, my coteacher couldn't be here for 2 weeks in September, so I was made to teach then, and she can't be here for this week either so I have to teach alone, again. All her classes, even if they intervene with my regularly scheduled ones.
Should I complain? CAN I complain? |

Are you unhappy about it? If you are not unhappy don't complain. If you are unhappy weigh up whether it is worth complaining about. |

Sure you can complain. Speak to your head teacher or handler. The sub covering her classes should also be coming to yours. |

The excuse is always that "We can't find a sub. So just teach the classes alone."
But I really think my Vice-Principal is like... why do we need a sub when we can just throw her in there with 30-watever students. Anyway, whatever. It was just irritating to me that they keep laying her classes on me whenever they feel like it just cause she's out. |

Illegal?
In the list of laws that need to written, let alone policies, I don't think that this is on the top of the list. |

so you're not just teaching your classes, but you're also subbing for her? how many classes do you teach a week? if it's over 22 you should be getting paid overtime. |

No, her amount of classes match up evenly with mine. So I just switch out the classes I'm supposed to be doing with another co-teacher and they make me do hers alone and the other co-teacher does the classes we SHOULD'VE been doing together alone.
Know what? Screw it. This sounds like a reason for me to just give everyone a wordsearch this week and call it a day.... a week. Whatever. And if they question it, I'll just say "I'm not a real teacher."
The End. |

OP, I'm in the same boat except it's all of the time. It suits me now, as in I've gotten used to it. Sounds like you realise not to take it all too seriously! Good luck! |

Are you joking? Your not getting paid to just throw out worksheets and sit in a chair all day. Your getting paid to teach.

If you want to make it a contract issue you could complain for sure... Language of the contract states that were are to "co-teach" 22 classes per week... Could suggest they are breaking the contract by not allowing you to co-teach. |

The OP is an ASSISTANT teacher. He is getting paid to assist his co-teacher. If no co-teacher, he can do what ever he pleases. |

technically, they shouldn't be making you teach alone, but they often do. my first school was the same way, it was really difficult at first but eventually i felt more confident and powerful in the classroom (this was middle school), and the kids started to respect me more.
you can insist that you have a korean teacher in the class with you (afterall, you are getting paid an assistant teacher salary), but be aware that the teacher will not be pleased and will, therefore, probably not do much.
what age level are the kids? you could plan a group project which will take a few classes - never underestimate how much time kids will spend drawing and colouring (speaking from middle school experience!) |

Insist that the head teacher be in the class. When the head teachers realize that their free time will disappear, they will force the VP to get a sub. |
