I'm not a huge fan of either, but I do have my preference.

Polling these two because they are the most popular bakeries in Korea (or at least in Daegu).

If you have a preference for another bakery, be sure to mention it in your post.

My pick - Paris Baguette reason - better grainy breads, better cookies, better chewy sesame ball things, better donuts, bagals covered with cheese - the pastries are pretty terrible though

And my take on Tous Les Jours - the last time I got a loaf of bread there it tasted like play dough, the cookies are pretty bad :/, baguettes are good though and cheese bread

...I only included two options, because the question is not about best bakery in all of Korea, or do you think both of them are crap.

And I did post this because my friend and I are having a disagreement on which is better. (not that it matters in the grand scheme of life)

So if you have a few moments to waste, click away.

And if you have any recommendations for good bakeries, that'd be cool too.

I generally prefer tous les jours. If I want to get something with a little meat and/or cheese, they generally have a better selection. Usually, you can find something with just ham and cheese instead of a hotdog with ketcup sweet pickles, corn and sweet potato.

They also tend to have a better selection of pastries. Paris baguette has a couple of good things, but most are Koreanized with sweet potato or red bean paste.

I love Korean food, but I'll never understand the obsession with adding sweet potatoes to every western food.

I don't know much about Tour les Jours but there's a PB across the street from my apartment. Some of it is ok, but most of is crap. They have some sort of wrap that's a hotdog wrapped in a tortilla. Looks pretty bad.

There is one thing at TLJ that I did like (at least I think it was TLJ). It was some sort of round piece of bread with cheese and ham. that was good.

All I want is Baguettes and Tour Les Jours never seems to have them... Maybe I just go too late but since Paris Baguette always seems to have a couple it gets my vote. Good job for keeping the namesake!

PB has been mostly dead to me since they teased me with the delicious cinnamon buns. I got one there 3 times one week, and then after that it was like they never existed. The sign disappeared, I never saw them again.

Pari Baguette used to have some nice 'Marathon Bang' even though it was really just white bread with a few seeds and pieces of nut inside. They also used to have really good doughnuts. In fact, the first food I ever bought and ate in Korea was some fresh doughnuts, for breakfast my first morning here, so, I still have a soft spot for PB.

And I agree, the ice creams/ ice blocks on a stick are great... like a best kept secret or something. Unfortunately, I also think they're the best thing there these days.

So, recently, Krispy Cremes for doughnuts, Gung Jung Bakery for real bread. Unfortunately for anyone outside of Gwangju, Jeollanamdo, you're going to have to come here to try it out. All five of the branches of this local franchise make Gung Jung Bakery one of the best kept secret things about Gwangju, home of the best food in Korea!
