If MA holders are actually willing to take this drek then it is little wonder that I, a humble BA holder with 5 years of experience (2 at uni) cannot get another uni posting.
YIKES...

Seems the pay is low. There is mandatory overtime and vacation is about equal to some public school gigs. AND, they expect to fill this position with those abysmal conditions/benefits in the next 6 weeks.
I gotta say, if they do, then the ship has probably sailed on university jobs over here. And, it may just be time to enact my Plan D which is to get a paralegal license and move back to the land of the fatties. One thing the US will always need is legal workers. |

2 months vacation
2 months on overtime
2.3 million per month (but an extra 800,000 from overtime)
12 regular hours and 6 overtime hours
I don't think it is as "end of the world" drek as you are saying. Not the best but certainly not the worst |

I just saw a uni position which compares to an academy.
30 hrs a week
1.9 with off campus housing, or 2.1 with a dorm room.
2 weeks vacation |

It's not an awful job. It just looks awful because of their seemingly high expectations for education and experience.
I bet in the end they will accept someone with a B.A. and 1 year experience. |

| Well, that's probably why I see job ads for PUFS every semester for the past few years: the conditions aren't very good. I have seen much worse, but that says more about how bad those jobs are than anything about PUFS. |

I think many Korean universities are pulling this sort of scheme in their hiring. They offer a mediocre wage and ask for an MA or PhD, and then settle for a BA. And if they do get someone with an MA, that's gravy.
In their defense, though, Busan is a less costly place to live than Seoul, and by local standards the salary isn't that bad. |

| Employers also realize that the economy sucks in most Western countries, plus the teaching market is still feeling the effects of the Nova shutdown in Japan. The supply of teachers is as high as it has ever been, so they can lowball their offers and still end up getting what they want. My guess is that they will get some chump with an MA to take this job. |

The ad says they have 64 foreign faculty...
that could play a roll in continued turnover. The job might not be too bad, but someone is always moving on in life. |

Yeah, gays tend to be exploited and not get paid well. |

Could be worse, especially if the housing is included and near a beach. It is a national university, so I doubt that they'll end up just taking BA holders. I don't know if it's official policy, but aren't national universities required to hire only MA holders for ESL positions? Could be wrong on this, but I do know that SNU won't hire BA holders, even at the institute.
At any rate, not too bad of a slot for someone with an MA but no experience looking to break into university teaching. |

It's a private university not a national one.
It's not a terrible position by any means. There are, of course, many better university jobs. If you compare it to working in a hagwon or even a public school it looks better on paper, though I have no idea what the work atmosphere is like. I'm sure many applicants will be coming from a hagwon background so it will certainly be a step up.
Another poster above said that Busan is much cheaper than Seoul. I don't think anywhere is much cheaper than anywhere else, with the exception of housing. Seoul is definitely more expensive with regards to housing, however this job includes housing so it seems like a non-issue. I suppose living on a beach might make one less inclined to go to bars or clubs in the summer though when you could party on the beach instead. That would save some money I suppose. |
