There seems to be a tonne of us around.
I am kinda Chinese, kinda British..
Born in Hong Kong, raised in a very British way, until taking off for the UK at a relatively young age.
So what are you? ABC, BBC, CBC, AusBC, NZBC, ChinaBC, HKBC, T(aiwan)BC, S('pore)BC...?
May be we should form a #BC club (# being whichever country you were born in).
Yeah, I am bored.. |

Did you know there's a Chinese saying, "The Koreans are more Chinese than the Chinese"? |

PRagic, you should know that nothing happens without planning.
I am planning it now, but I have just got out of the divorce rut and am doing some solid path-laying. Will be gone by end of 2010. |

No doubt you could make all sorts of Korean friends telling them that. |

I'm half-Chinese from England, but I don't speak any Chinese at all. Does that count? |

Good on you for going heavy into the planning part; pointless to make a move without things being set up in advance. Good luck to you and the wee one. I've always enjoyed your posts. |

Just don't need to segregate by where we were born and what language. Just make it a Pan-Chinese club or something. There's enough "us vs. them" mentality here in Korea. |

Told you I was bored and was curious about where people were from. No different than wanting to know if you were from the US or the UK etc. |

My wife is Chinese. Does that get me anything?
Also I have another question for folks here. I heard a lot of people say ABC (American Born Chinese). This always sounded like it undermined their national identity to me and even a little derogitory depending on who was saying it. I always heard ethnicity-nationality. For example Chinese American. This always sounded more appropriate to me. Curious what the other posters here think? |

It's just a way of ID'ing ourselves and make things clearer.
There is really only a small %tage of people who are offended by it. Disgruntled people always make the most noise. Those of us who don't really care don't say anything.
*shrug*.. c'est la vie is my motto |

As far as I know ABC is a derogatory term used by Chinese born in China to describe American Born Chinese. I've not heard it used by non-Chinese Americans. |

You can have an honourary membership simply because you can write in Chinese.
