The guy who raped an 8 year old a couple months back Pohang got 20 years in prison plus 7 years of parole with one of those electronic bracelets. The court said being drunk isn't going to fly this time.

In my opinion 20 years isn't enough for a child rapist.

Not for what he did.

Well, I do not know anything about the details of this case, but it seems to me that the length of the prison sentence is about the same for what one might expect for a similar crime in the USA. But of course, I do agree that 20 years is not nearly enough time for a child rapist to spend in prison.

I think 20 years is about right. But the good part of this is that usually these people get 2 year suspended sentences for showing remorse or scapegoating alcohol.

Yeah sentences for pedophiles in the US aren't that much better either. I feel a better sentence would be to end the sick bastard's misery but that's just me.

Wasn't he originally only going to get 12? This is a good sign at least.

Certainly better than what he was going to get.

Its a different man - different case.

However - it was in Suwon (not Pohang) -

http://joongangdaily.joins.com/article/view.asp?aid=2913416

Meanwhile - Korea plans on raising the sentence to 50 years for all child abusers -

http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/national/2009/12/02/78/0302000000AEN20091202010600315F.HTML

(with NO statute of limitations)

Meanwhile - a 20y.o. male got ONLY 8 months in prison for RAPING a 8y.o. boy in a playground bathroom -

http://briandeutsch.blogspot.com/2009/11/20-year-old-gets-eight-months-for.html (it was also his 3rd offense)

I think 80 should be kind of a bar for extreme crimes like this. So, if you're 20, 60 years is good. If you're 50, 30 years... Ideally by the time the guy is 80 years old, he, or she, will be too frail to hurt anyone. For people that are in their 70's and over 80, sending them to prison for life is appropriate.

Or the death penalty, but I'm not really too keen on that, because if you get the wrong guy...

Life sentences technically are 25 years usually. The guy is in his 50's so it is very likely that he will die of old age (or shanking hopfully) in prison.

That's the truth. If this is the case I remember, he did absolutely horrendous things to that little girl.
