I'm leaving Korea and I have one year left on my internet service contract.

KT suggested I find someone to take over my contract to avoid a fine.
You can speak to English speaking service agent at KT to verify this.

You only pay 35,000 a month for high speed broadband. No fee installation because its under contract.

does anyone need internet and can help me out?

PM me or email Tigerstyleone at Y

Comment rescinded after I realised my error.

I feel for you.
I have to pay 180K cause I got married and we didn't need two internet connections anymore. Seems like they are more than happy to charge what they want and I don't know how they came up with that number.

If you're not too worried about the karma you could just go, but maybe it's in someone else's name?

They come up with it by taking the difference in the amount you paid after your contract-length discount and figuring how much you would have paid without that discount. You end up paying the difference.

Of course, having written this, I now remember that my bill would be about 35k without my discount, so maybe this is a good deal for someone.

My understanding is that you can quit the contract without paying a fee if you are a foreigner and are leaving the country. You just have to show them your passport and plane ticket. I think this is the law, not a company policy.

I think this because it's what the salesperson told me when they wanted me to sign a two year contract. I read the contract, rather my girlfriend did, but there was no mention of this policy. I made the installation guy hand write it on the contract and sign it.

My guess is that KT knows this policy but is choosing not to tell you!

So you're telling me there is a law that says if you sign a contract to get a lower price, you can leave halfway through and not pay a fine just b/c you're a foreigner? I seriously doubt this is the case. If so, it would explain why Korean companies don't want to do business with foreigners some times, it costs them money b/c of this ludicrous law!

If you aren't planning on returning to Korea, then just don't pay whatever ridiculous fine they wanted to charge you.

I'm telling you that the sales person at my internet service provider told me this was the case. The conversation went something like this...(it was in Korean and between my girlfriend and the sales rep)

salesperson: If you sign a 2 year contract, you only have to pay 26,000 won per month, otherwise it's 34,000 won per month.

My GF: My boyfriend is a foreigner and is on a one-year contract, so he doesn't want to sign a multi-year contract.

Salesperson: Oh, don't worry about it. If a foreigner residing in Korea is moving out of the country, he can cancel the contract with no fee. He just has to show us his passport and plane ticket to prove that he is leaving.

I agreed and the service guy came to my apt. with the contract. He asked me to sign it. My GF read it. There was no clause about me being able to break the contract if I leave the country. I told him that I needed to have that on the contract, otherwise I was not going to sign it.

He called is office. Then he wrote on the contract what the salesperson had told me.

My guess is that this is not company policy. My guess is that there is some kind of law that allows foreign workers to cancel service contracts if they are leaving the country.

I could be wrong. It could be company policy.

Or, it could be that the salesperson totally lied to me just to make a sale. In the end, though, I got it in writing, so I doubt that's the case.

If you, "Seriously doubt this is the case" you can just call and find out for yourself.

That's why I posted...so the OP could do some research and find out for himself!!

I will have to concur with what this man said. I went through C&M (CNM) for cable/internet services and signed a 3 year contract. Of course, that was too long but the representative said that when I want to cancel the plan and not have to pay the difference, all I have to do is show them my passport and a ticket showing that I'm leaving the country. Not sure if this is the law but it's worth a try. Good to hear that it's not just me who has been told this.
