No partying for me this year, I have some extra work. That's okay though as I will watch a horror movie with the g-friend who hates horror movies (nightmares?). Anyway, what's the best. I have The Echo (2009), Hellraiser, and Drag Me To Hell. I'm not huge on any of these but that's what I have at the moment. I really wish I could get my hands on Paranormal Activity (as a bonus with Korean or English subs). I always enjoy The Exorcist. As well, there is a Sci Fi semi-horror (I think) movie in theatres now called Pendorum.
So, what's the best Halloween horror flick? How's Pendorum? Where can I find Paranormal Activity? |

Pandorum was actually pretty good and that's coming from a pompous British film snob.
No new ground but a nice blending of Alien, 2001, zombie/vampires kindof thing...
I liked it. Very watchable, if not ultimately fogettable.
The shining of course is another good option no matter how many times you've seen it.
Personally, if you haven't yet seen them and can get get your hands on them or download them - Ringu 1 and 2 (the original Japanese 'Ring') will blow you away.
Ringu 1 is slow moving, but very atmopsheric and economical with just a couple of twisted scenes...
Ringu 2, Hideo Nakata's gorgeoous masterpiece of suspense, psychological drama and imagery. One of my absolute favourite horror / suspense films of ALL TIME. The imagery and atmosphere, the pacing of this film will engulf you and suffocate you and totally drag you into the world of the film... Oh man I wish I could get it here with Engllish subtitles.... |

Halloween 1 (1978) Jamie lee Curtis and some English guy who was the psychologist.
If she hates suspense and horror flicks, this should do the trick!! |

Unfortunately, it isn't the theatrical ending in the torrent. |

Trick 'r Treat is a fun one for fans of the genre, and rather pretty, though not a cinematic masterpiece. Four stories loosely intertwined. It tries to put some fresh twists on tropes, but it's kind of formulaic in that regard... Anyway, it's got the look and feel of a solid Hallowe'en flick without any of the excessive gore or cheap tricks that might turn your gf off.
Though not specifically Halloweeny, the Thai/Korean horror film Alone scared the poo-oop out of me (but then, I'm always a sucker for Asian shock horror). And it actually has a decent storyline, which is more than I can say about most Asian horror flicks I've seen.
Again, not specific to Hallowe'en, but I recommend Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon to anyone who likes mockumentaries, old school slasher flicks, parodies, movies, the Talking Heads, and life in general. "It follows a film crew that documents an aspiring serial killer who models himself according to slasher film conventions." --Wiki
The plot gets a little wonky in the final third of the movie, but until then it's got a great script. Everything else about it is solid: soundtrack, editing, lighting, cinematography, the whole nine yards. The cast is composed of a lot of unknowns, but familiar faces for horror buffs include Robert Englund, Zelda Rubinstein, and Kane Hodder. Nathan Baesel? Is PHENOMENAL.
IN CASE I HAVE NOT PLUGGED THIS FILM ENOUGH, have a trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tNrvDA_eE8
Speaking of Talking Heads and horror and things that are generally awesome, always in my heart (no matter what the critics have to say about it) is Re-Animator. Some people call Jeffrey Combs the poor man's Bruce Campbell. Nay. As Herbert West, Re-Animator, this man is a GOD. |

I'm disappointed no one has mentioned Killer Clowns from Outer Space. |

Hmmm...good Halloween movies...
I'm kinda makin assumptions about what constitutes a good horror flick, but I suspect that you are looking for a good mix of shock and suspense?
John Carpenter's Halloween is a given. I might also suggest Prince of Darkness (a little dated, but Alice Cooper's cameo and the weirdo mix of metaphysics and quantum physics definitely redeem this).
Go with the original Nightmare on Elm Street, 28 Days Later, Suspiria (if just for that creepy soundtrack performed by the Goblins), Creepshow is good for a hoot, and Don't Look Now is great.
If your idea of horror veers into gorier realms, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre can't be beat. I always had a soft spot (probably on top of my head) for the first two Hellraiser movies, and the unrated version of The Reanimator is a must. |

I know this is a couple weeks late but... like an above poster said, Trick 'R Treat is fantastic. It captures the mood and essence of Halloween better than any other movie I've seen.
Other than that, I love the classics I grew up with like Nightmare Before Chrismas and Hocus Pocus. |
