Has anyone had any experience with this afterschool company? Any information would be appreciated. |

I almost signed with them, but backed out because they're just too shady. They do the double bankbook thing (you open a second account, the school pays into that account, then Hanmi pays you) and even make you sign an agreement that you won't touch the money. The whole thing is illegal. Mind you, I did an after-school gig before that, and it paid well for only a few hours a day. If you don't mind the illegality (is that a word?) then it's fine. |

They are not shady, a lotof recruiters do the bank account thing, but the reality is even if it is a legal loophole, it doesn;t effect you in the slightest.
I actually quite liked working for them. Ned and Sue are pretty easy to get on with and can be quite lenient and tolerant due to their small business model (compard with winedu etc.)
There were two donwsides.
1. (This will be the case with most companies though) If you land a crappy / psycho co-teacher, their official policy is - always back up and believe the Korean teacher. They told me this to my face. I got a crappy and psycho co teacher but luckilly they kinda knew she was a bitch so transferred me to another school and lo and behold another lying psycho - who they then fired as even the kids attested to her lies. Next was the best co-teacher and one of the lovliest people anyone could hope to ever have to work with. I really liked her and the school and Hanmi were okay to work for.
2. But - this is why I left. Because you only do 4 classes a day, you only get 400,000 for housing and 1.85 salary (total of 2.25 mil won.) This was fine at first as I had a pt eve gig that payed a mil+ a month so I was raking it in for quite low daily hours. Sadly after a year or more the pt gig fell through and after 5 years here I felt I couldn't really accept living on 1.85 a month after all deductions etc. It broke my damned heart to leave tbh as I loved those kids and my coteacher so much, they were some of the most enjoyable classes I have ever and will most likely ever have. But I have debts, so....
Give them a shot if the job and conditions seem okay, they really aren't too bad once you get to know them and this is coming from ME - one of the most virulent Korean hakwan / psycho co-teacher / shady company bashers on this forum.... |

thanks for the info. Sounds like you had pretty bad look with your co teachers. Why are psycho co teachers so common in Korea? I've heard plenty of stories. |

I've had them in two public school jobs also, one friend just left a job where he had a psycho ps school coteacher and another friend currently has a ps job psycho coteacher.....so it's not just Hanmi.... |
