How do you get a job teaching with the ROK Air Force? I have seen their ad on the Korean Job Board. I have sent them my information but never hear back from them. Is there anything specific they are looking for?

You say in another post you were here with the military. Don't you have contacts?

For someone who was here for three years already, you sure have some weird questions!

I did an interview there two years ago, but I didn't want to work there, because it is in the middle of nowhere. But if you don't mind that, it seemed like a good gig.

BigMac. I was there from 1986-1989 in the military and there as a teacher from 2008-2009 and things have changed quite a bit in between.

When you are in the military you can be sheltered from how things really work in a country. For example, the first time I came to Korea(with the military) I did not need a passport just a military ID. When I wanted to buy any American products I just went to my local shopette,PX, or commissary on base and bought them with my American dollars. a(tax free)!!

Now the second time I came to Korea as a teacher, I had to get a passport and a Visa. Before obtaining the latter, I had to show proof of a college degree, Criminal background check, and take a Greyhound bus to Washington DC and get asked three whole questions for my Visa. So I hope this makes my questions a little less weird to you.

Thank you for your reply ntwrightsmom. Do you remember any certain questions they asked on your interview? I am afraid I can not send you a PM right now cause according to Dave's ESL cafe I do not have enought postings. So if you could just reply to this posting I would deeply appreciate it.

It was two years ago, so I don't remember that much. But as I recall, it was more professional than a lot of the other interviews I have done. I don't think there was a teaching demonstration, but they asked me to prepare one... I could be wrong about that. There were about four Korean professors who interviewed me, and they asked me some serious questions about teaching philosophy. I remember that one female professor had doubts about my ability to teach a large class, because I only had one-on-one teaching experience at the time. That's about all I can remember. Anyways, I didn't get the job, but I got a better one. Very Happy Good luck!
