I'll be coming to Korea for EPIK this February, but I have wondered what it is like to work as a teacher recruiter?

So, has anyone ever done it? What's the experience like? I ask because I've always been interested in recruiting/hr.

Its a horrible job in my opinion. I did for 3 months and quit - went back to teaching. Always having to deal with people lying to you, backing out at the last minute, not to mention being yelled at by schools and your boss because of things that are not under your control (i.e. I got yelled at by a school because a teacher that had signed a contract, but had not yet started, got arrested and deported for drugs!). Plus the dirty looks you get when you tell other foreigners that you are a recruiter.
Don't take my word for it though, I wasn't very good at it. Maybe that's why I hated it so much.

That sounds interesting. I don't know if I would be good at it but I was wondering if there would be a possibility to intern/volunteer at an agency just to get some experience and see what it's like. Did you have to know Korean?

Apparently recruiters in Korea do have to havea business lisence. And also when teaching on an E2 visa you would be illegally working if you were earning money from recruiting. So dont get caught! At the best aim for a few under the cover won kickbacks to bring your friends over from the states.

Recruiting in Korea has got to be a crap job.

You get dumped on by your clients, as well as the schools who are recruiting for.

Lets say you find a school for someone. Everything is straight and the school backs out at the last minute. You have to do damage control and tell the teacher they don't have a job anymore.

Or, you find someone, put them at a school and after the first week the guy has a serious Kimchi allergy and pulls a runner. The school blames you.

Haha, looks like I got a nice, thorough response here:

Well, thanks!
