Since the market is pretty crowded, especially for university jobs, are the schools very strict on their requirements? Meaning, if they say "must have two years teaching at university level" is it that cut and dry? I know they can pick and choose, and there is no point in wasting anyone's time if I'm not qualified. I do have a MA in English, with a TESL concentration, and a TESL graduate diploma, but only 1 year (when this year is over) of elementary teaching. Should I try?

It can't hurt to submit your application. I'd say with those qualifications you'd have a decent shot!
