I'm heading to teach in Japan for March/April 2010, at least, I aim to. I haven't actually got one of the jobs I'm going for yet but I intend to before that time.
Anyway, my contract ends in June. I'm going to be leaving early. I haven't told anyone at my GEPIK High School yet because I know what things can happen once you tell them you're not going to be around for much longer. I actually don't see leaving in March as being the end of the world anyway because if I give notice in January or February it would give them time to hire a new teacher for the fresh batch of students and I won't be running out on them mid-way through a semester.
The scary thing is that the standard GEPIK contract says 60 days of written notice. Is this normal? I read it when I signed the contract but I haven't looked at it in awhile and I signed it more than a year ago when I first started working for the school. 60 days feels like to big a window to leave open for this sort of thing.
What is the legally required amount of notice that I can give? 30 or 60? I probably will turn in at 60 days just because the timing is good given that January and February won't have many teaching days. The other thing is that I don't have a solid job in Japan yet... I hope to come December/January, but as of now I don't have anything. Just some phone interviews.
If this messes up too badly I'd have to return to my home country without a hope in hell of getting back with ease.
Thanks for the info. |
