|
|
| I am using Limewire to DL a torrent. This newer version of Limewire gives me the choice of what I want to download with the file. Apparently, there are about 5 or 6 different files that want to download as part of the torrent for Surrogates. I can check or uncheck these files individually with the new Limewire. It used to be that torrents came with just one or two files, right? (been awhile since I've downloaded one). Why all the extra files that are around 46k or so? Do I need them? Don't I just need the main file? |

| Holy crap. Get uTorrent if you're using Windows or Transmission if you're using a Mac. |

There are possible subtitle files, movie sample files, NFO files, and the tracker file.
Every torrent site has a link to see what types of files are being downloaded.
Use a genuine torrent client like suggested above, and download your torrents through http://thepiratebay.org/, or http://www.mininova.org/ . |

It depends on what you are downloading, no?
How about posting the file extension names (eg. .idx, .sub, .srt, .nfo) whatever. Someone will be able to tell you what they are and then you can make a decision if you need them or not. |

Should I be concerned about torrent privacy?
How do I protect myself? A paid service? |

My gawd, man, you've been using Limewire and you're worried about privacy?
Limewire is full of fake files and sick files. All sorts of trojans, and key loggers are waiting for you there. Files are often not what they say they are, and the actual architecture of the program is more open to hacking.
Torrent clients don't allow anyone to access general files on your computer and they filter out bad data through 'hash checks'.
Furthermore, clients like Transmission (Mac) have a blacklist of bad IPs that are shut out. And minor encrypting to disguise the data you're downloading.
All these things are not perfect, but much more secure than Limewire.
If you're concerned about getting caught, that's a long way away. Korean authorities haven't been on to torrents, they are more concerned with p2p sites, but as said above, PeerGuardian will help. |

Peerblock is interesting, but it blocks Dave's and CNN! |

I haven't used it but I assume you can configure it to accept IPs that it blocks by default. |

| Thanx for posting about uTorrent... I'd never heard of it and now I'm downloading my movie collection. |
