I was looking at the updated version of the LSA, and I noticed that there are no longer any provisions for severance pay. Can anyone shed some light on this? I thought by law, severance had to be paid to teachers (regardless of whether it's listed in the contract).

Check article 34, it's completely changed.

Severance isn't aboilished, it's now contained in the EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT BENEFIT SECURITY ACT of 2005 available from http://www.moleg.go.kr/english/korLawEng;jsessionid=zXVZ4GXIzQt0hZJji4L1CoMYdAfUYchP04h1d2BcUdBFZR3A1WSm2Poa10LFIbnL?pstSeq=47471&pageIndex=22

There is a rumour this could change, but it's still here now. So we still get severance, which was never called severance by the Koreans.
