According to the Joongang Daily it will become easier to apply for E2 visas. You will no longer have to re-submit all your documents every time you apply for a new E2 visa or an extension. This won't effect first timers.
Other changes:
-Longer E2 visas possible.
-Able to join internet sites using passport number or Alien number (we'll see about this..)
-Only have to submit your thumb print, and not all ten fingers every time you are investigated
-More space on government forms for foreigners with long names.
Also, when applying for permanent residency you can skip the language test and have an interview instead if you have been here more than ten years. Actually I haven't heard of F5 visa holders having to take a formal language test so I don't know what this is about. Maybe they were talking about becoming a citizen, not permanent residency.

It looks like the D8 investors visa's investment minimum will increase from $50,000 to $100,000.

If that is true, then its a good thing.
Though I will wait to see it put into practice before I start celebrating. |

| wait..did this article imply that E-2s would be able to move between employers without having to apply for a new visa (as in freedom)? If so that would be great...though I wont be holding my breath. |

Damn shame on the D8s. Bloody Nigerians ruined that one for people! A common scam was some guy back in Nigeria would borrow the 50,000 dollars apply for the visa. Then give the money back once they had the visa.
Also I think Nappa is having a joke on us!.......
Damn actually looking at the article! These are the best ideas they could come up with!
What about some commonsense ideas!
Like if teacher has not been back to home country he/she does not have to submit a CRC from said home country!
Actually spending some money on a couple of hard drives and a scanner and keeping records of degrees. SO I do not have to bloody show the same degree over and over again every bloody year. It is not like I am actually going to forget my education all at once. Learn to keep a note yep skippy has shown us his degree back in 2000 he does not need to show it again UNLESS he goes back to school or gets another degree!
BUT NO! We get more name space on the forms now. Oh my GOD thanks! Now I don't have to write smaller anymore!
And we to get to register for Korean websites - never mind that it will take sites a couple of years to get off their duffs and implement the changes. Plus we get to keep using their wonderful ActiveX programs whoops I use Firefox!
AAAHHHH! |

It's about bloody time, mind you.
The bit about more white space on forms is hilarious. Is this something that even needs to be debated? |

| For the Americans, they're going to be requiring FBI background checks. However, most (many?) of us already here have submitted only state level. Are we grandfathered into this deal? |

| So once we get the FBI checks, then we give them to kimmi, or have to take them to the US embassy or the apostillise in the US? |

| I just came across an interesting comment in a blog posting. Apparently, according to an article in the Herald, the 'longer E2 visas' issue does not mean visa portability i.e. being able to receive a 2 or 3-year visa, but actually means that E2 visa holders will be allowed to stay in Korea slightly longer than the 15 days that they are currently permitted to stay when searching for another job between contracts. I just knew it was too good to be true. When will Korea buy a clue... |

I'll believe it when I see it.
They told us the same identical garbage back in 2007/08 when the new regs came in. And they said that same thing in 2006 when E-2 holders had to trek down to Immigration to "verify" their degrees.
Whenever a bureaucracy says "this is to make things easier." you know for a fact it will do no such thing.

Since when? There is no such grace period last I checked. You must be out of the country on your last day noted on the ARC. |

| I guess what I meant to say was that you will be allowed to either apply for a longer extension or will be given a period of grace time in which you'll be able to find another job. Something or other to that effect. |
