So this is my second year here in Korea and I am looking towards this winter vacation and wondering what to do. I have a week, starting January 9th... Problem is I need ideas, not well versed in traveling through Asia yet as the first year was spent mostly traveling within Korea. I am looking for a fun place to go with my wife.
Where are good places to go during the wintertime? (other places in Asia?)
How do I book such ventures? (priced from cheap to moderate, nothing too expensive)
Anyone have any advice ideas? (I live in the south near Gwangju) any help would be much appreciated! |

Hong Kong - plenty of everything there, and it never stops moving. A three-hour flight one way from Incheon (which is probably the best airport for you to use, even though you're way down south).
Book through Expedia.com if you have Visa or Master Card. I recommend the Ramada, in Kowloon - great location, low priced, and rooms are decent sized. Don't rent a car - take the express train from the airport, and the subway, ferry, or your feet thereafter. |

This is the time of year when at least half the English teachers in Korea run off to SE Asia. Airfares can be high this time of year, but once you get there it will be much cheaper than Japan or HK. Try to book through Korean based sites or the airlines websites as Expedia and Travelocity are very expensive for flights originating in Korea. Most of Asia will be warmer than here that time of year except for Northern China, Hokkaido, and Mongolia. |

thailand!! the biggest cost will be the airfare; but you can find a decent hotel for $30-50 a night. and if you eat thai food you can also save a bundle.
beautiful weather, friendly people, cheap prices.
also the tours are cheap enough that if you're worried about traveling alone with just your wife, you can sign up for some. you can go elephant trekking, scuba diving/snorkling, the floating market. i love it there! |

Definitely Thailand!
Fly to Bangkok on Thai Airways. www.thaiairways.com
Stay a night or two on Khao San road.
Fly to Surrantani www.airasia.com or take the overnight sleeper bunk train to save money.
Ferry to Khao Samoi. Samoi is very couple friendly. Rent a car there if you want to explore the island (we got a jeep for $30 a day). Stay in a beach bungalow.
If you want to see something else, take the one hour ferry to Khao Pennang. Stay on the sunset beach.
Back up to Bangkok to fly out and then home.
All this can be done easly in a week to nice days. I did it last year. Thailand is amazing! |

Go to Cambodia and see Angkor Wat. You can fly to Siam Reap directly. It's a fantastic place. |
