Hello. I am wondering if anyone knows when I can enter the country once I receive my visa. Let me explain a little: My contract start date is December 2, 2009 (end date is December 1, 2010). However, I would like to come a few days earlier-like maybe November 28 to visit some friends. Does anyone know if this is possible? (My recruiter has told me that my school wants me to arrive at the airport on December 2 and come to the school the same day to find out my living arrangements. But I want to arrive a little earlier and stay with some friends until December 2). Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

You can enter anytime after you receive your visa (until it expires 90 days after date of issue). Be aware your one-year period of sojourn will start the day of entry; and if you come early, you will need an extension to finish your contract.

Your boss probably doesn't want to deal with the hassle or the cost of extending your contract a couple of days because you want to come early. However, if you tell him that you would pay for the extension and take care of it yourself, he probably wouldn't have a problem then.

Hey everyone- Thanks for the answers! I'm probably just gonna arrive about a day early. Anyways your information was very helpful especially considering this is the first time for me to get an E-2 visa. Thanks again!
