Hey everyone, I'm in talks with two major recruiters to go teach for GEPIK in Spring 2010. Has anyone heard any news on when the jobs will be offered?

I've got one recruiter (KorVia) telling giving me deadlines for when the jobs are going to fill up, so I need to get my documents to them right away. And I have another recruiter (ESL Planet) telling me that they haven't heard anything all week, as jobs offers were supposed to start going out Nov. 30.

What is everyone else hearing? What have been some recruits experiences in the past? Anyone getting offers from GEPIK? Just wondering.

Don't send your docs to any recruiter until you know you have a position. They want to ensure that you are going to go with them. You don't even know if you have a job yet. Korvia hasn't delivered any job to you yet and you haven't signed a contract (I'm guessing). Wait until you have a job and have signed a contract to send anything to a recruiter. If you send your docs to one recruiter that means that if this one recruiter doesn't work out then you are out of luck.

Well I'm sitting on an Interview Setting Form and the GEPIK application.

Should I send in the interview setting form?

I don't understand the logistics of how I can get a job / signed contract without sending in my official information first, could you explain a bit more df1983?

Thanks.

Yeah I filled out an interview setting form as well. Korvia wants those for whatever reason. ESL Planet did not require that, or maybe they fill it out themselves. Its the same information from your application, so I didn't appreciate having to fill it out again.

But yeah, nobody seems to know anything about jobs yet, and I think its perfectly acceptable to demand a concrete job offer first before sending my documents out. Demanding documents first would allow them to put me at any school they wanted, the old bait and switch.

This whole thing has me thinking I'd rather not go with GEPIK, maybe a hagwon would be a better way to go. Not sure at this point. If anyone is hearing anything from their recruiters, though, I'm sure everyone would be interested to hear it.

OK, there are two ways to go with GEPIK.

One is apply direclty with Gepik. If this is what you are doing then you send all of your docs to the office and they place you into a school. In this case you would send your docs beforehand BUT you are still not guarenteed a position and you won't know where you are going till you get here.

The second is being hired through a recruiter... Gepik outsources their hiring now to recruiters... You still interview with the school but you will know exactly where you are going before coming and after signing the contract THEN you send your docs to Korea.... From the rumblings i've heard there are only 50 positions available with Gepik if you apply directly to their head office. There are supposedly about 450 positions that will be left for the schools who want to hire their teacher directly through a recruiter....

It would be wise (at least in my opinion) to wait and try to get in with a recruiter (that's what i'm going to do). As with everything on Dave's... take it with a grain of salt. These are things that I have only heard.

Rowan from ESL Planet is pretty good. He's up front and honest.

Yeah, I've already decided I'm going to sit on my documents for now. I just don't want to miss out on a decent city to live in. The idea of GEPIK randomly placing you is kinda crazy to me, as those 50 positions are probably the least desirable ones.

In any case it's good to know that someone else is waiting for news as well. It's just getting to the point where if you do get a position with GEPIK its very short notice.

Yeah, scary.
ideally you want an interview at your prospective school to stake it out.

I'm waiting for a contract... Has anyone received their contracts for jobs beginning in March 2010 with GEPIK?
