After my 1-year contract with GEPIK my wife wants to be in Seoul.
I have a non-related BA and I'll only have a year of teaching experience (this current contract with GEPIK).
Would I have a chance getting a job teaching elementary students with SMOE, or would I have to go with a hagwon?
Any ways I can improve my chances getting a job in Seoul (i.e. online TEFL)?
And no, I'm not a California beauty queen. |

If you are a lot older --like your your sign in suggests with the name of grandpa, then job availabilty may be more difficult even with an added TESOL.
Will your wife appreciate living in a small studio? Does she work also?
Of interest is your wife leading your next job choice or you ?  |

I think it depends how small the studio is.
No, she doen't work.
Well she says that getting an enjoyable work environment is a 50/50 chance. So if I get a crummy work environment for my next job, then it's better that the job be in Seoul than in the middle of nowhere. |

Hey grandpa, sorry i cant reply to pm's for some reason so have to do it here.
I spent 4 years in japan, its nice. The cost of living is higher, but so is the pay. However youll save more money in korea id say. If you were on JET youd possibly be fine, but the application period for this year is either closed or definitely coming to a close now (and lasts until april - its loooong). Also Japan is much ore strict about age limits than korea. They really want young uni graduates (the reason is - if you believe what it says in the book "importing diversity" - that the JET programme wants you to go home after your time, be a successful graduate and then when youre in your 40s and you have high level trade negotiations, youll think fondly of your time in japan). If youre a 40 year old teaching on the jet programme, not only are you just another old person in the school, (sex sells), but youre probably not going to be a captain of industry any time soon. As a 34 year old myself, i agree with that assessment 
Also, and just in general, if youre not actually in japan, getting a job there is spectacularly hard work right now. If youre in japan and have a work visa its a piece of cake, but people dont want to wait the 5 or so weeks to process it.
Japan however is lovely to live in. Its a very peaceful life and the people are both generous and humble. Of course honne/tatemae and all that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honne_and_tatemae |
